The 3rd Annual Grappling in the Gorge wrestling tournament, presented by the Jim Thorpe Takedown Club, will be Sunday, March 3 at Jim Thorpe Area High School.
Registration deadline is Wednesday, February 27th. Limited to the first 250 applications.

The 4th Annual King of the Ridge Wrestling Tournament is Sunday, Feb. 24 at Jim Thorpe Area High School. The tournament is presented by the elementary school wrestling programs from Palmerton, Lehighton, Jim Thorpe and Northern Lehigh.
Sponsorship opportunities are available to help fund this tournament which is televised live by Channel 13. There are expenses associated with the television coverage as well as referees and other administrative expenses.

Santa met with two of Jim Thorpe’s knee-hi coaches recently and gave them tips on what to give the grapplers for Christmas. All of the gifts were things that would help the kids get better on the mat, like duct tape to keep your head from laying on the mat and ear plugs to help you better listen to Coach Renny. The kids had a blast and so did Elf Tim and Elf Ross. Merry Christmas Everyone!

The 2012 Wrestling season for Jim Thorpe elementary through high school wrestlers will start tomorrow night with the annual Wrestle-Off Night. Wrestling starts at 6:30 and the community is invited to attend. We’ll have a bake sale and concessions. All proceeds benefit the Youth Arthritis Association and the March of Dimes.

We want to thank each member for volunteering their time and energy to help support our programs and thanks to everyone who comes to the meetings, helps to plan fundraising events and works at tournaments to help raise money to support the kids. We’ve seen significant growth in terms of the number of wrestlers over the past few years and we look forward to seeing these programs grow into the future.
IMPORTANT DATES Meet the Olympians: Winter Sports is Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the high school Wrestle-Off Night, Thursday, Nov. 29, 6:30. This is an event for both programs and all wrestlers are encouraged to attend.
Club meeting, Friday, Nov. 16, 7 p.m. to plan concessions for Wrestle-Off night. Thank you in advance for attending and helping to make this a successful kick-off to the 2012-2013 season.
The Jim Thorpe Takedown Club is hosting summer practice sessions for athletes interested in wrestling. The hour-long sessions will be June 18 & 27th, July 25 & 30th, and August 13th and 22nd. The sessions are from 7 – 8 p.m. at Jim Thorpe Area High School’s wrestling room. Interested athletes should come to the wrestling room on June 18 to sign-up.
The Takedown Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to fundraising in support of the knee-hi elementary wrestling program.
